After many months of humming and hawing I finally decided to hop on the Google + bandwagon. One of the main reasons was so I could also register for Google Authorship which many believe is a core piece in Google’s algorithmic (is that a word?) puzzle. And best of all, it’s not complicated to set up – heck, even I did it!
So what is Google Authorship?
Authorship allows you to connect your Google+ profile with any content you have published on your own site (and others). Basically when any of your content shows up in a search, your smiling face (via your G+ profile pic) shows up next to your results.
One study showed clicks went up 150% once a profile picture was added to a search result via authorship – remember, people are visual and your smiling face gives immediate click appeal. See how my profile pic appears next to content I have authored after a google search….
According to many industry pros, Authorship is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how Google will use G+ to integrate social and search more tightly going forward. So pull up your bootstraps and dig in folks…G+ is here to stay!
