Great Plugins to Boost your SEO

SEO plugins for WordPressTonight I had the honour of being a “SEO Expert Panelist” at the YVRBloggers Meetup at the lovely Waterfall building in Kits. Somewhat ironically the panel discussion was on SEO, a topic that I am slowly but surely learning about, but am by no means an expert. Nonetheless, I have gained some insights and wisdom from many of my peers on the panel (plus some great online resources like Yoast’s Blog and Moz) and have compiled a list of great WordPress plugins to help your blog improve it’s SEO.

  1. WordPress SEO by Yoast – easy to use, easy to understand and will ensure that the all important meta data and keywords are properly included in each  bit of content.
  2. Google Analytics by Yoast – Google analytics is a must use tool for any blogger to understand your demographics and what is and is not working with your site. Use this plugin to assist with integrating your analytics with your blog.
  3. Sitemap XML – use in conjunction with Google Webmaster Tools to assist in indexing your site.
  4. Google Authorship – An easy way to connect your Google Plus profile with your blog.
  5. W3 Total Cache – Page load speed is becoming increasingly important to ranking.
  6. Imsanity – As above, having an image heavy website can drag down your load time. Ensure that you optimize your images outside of WordPress first before uploading, and use Imsanity to automatically add a max image size or shrink already large images.
  7. SEO Friendly Images – A simple little plugin which automatically updates all your website images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes for SEO
  8. Shareaholic – social sharing is great for SEO – get your great content seen and shared!
  9. WP-Optimize Database – don’t let your database get bogged down with drafts, spam and post revisions, all of which can negatively affect page speed
  10. SEO Smart Links – Great for internal links! Has lots of automatic SEO benefits, such as keyword lists and nofollow. It can also automatically link keywords and phrases for your blog posts and comments to the corresponding posts, categories and tags from your blog. It’s a great tool that will help you get your blog posts interlinked.
